Hi,

I have a two fields containing a Date and a time in numeric values.

Ex.: FieldA(I8) = 20091007
FieldB(I6) = 113743

How can I convert this into a date/time value of format HYYMDm?

Thanks

Probably the easiest way would be to refer back to the documentation (online or "Using Functions" manual.) It describes in detail with examples what you would need to do to create date-time fields. Easiest would be to use EDIT and concatenation to create an alpha string and then use the HINPUT function. You could also use your date and the HDTTM function to create a date-time field and then insert your time with HSETPT. And there are probably many others.

Darin

Darin,

Here's the code I have as of now:
DEFINE FILE EFTRFP
CRTTSP/HYYMDm=HDTTM(HDATE(TRFTRFDDTE, 'YYMD'), 8, 'HYYMDm') ;
Now/HYYMDm=HGETC(10, 'HYYMDm');
END

TABLE FILE EFTRFP
SUM
...

I added the date to CRTTSP, and now I'd like to add the time. Now this may sound stupid: Can I write multiple statements to modify the value of CRTTSP in order to add the time to it? Because from what I read in the documentation, date/time components can be added only on at a time.

Thanks,

Use the function HINPUT, as Darin says, Check out the documentation, its all in there.

TABLE FILE CAR
PRINT COMPUTE
FieldA/I8 = 20091007 ;
FieldB/I6 = 113743;
DateText/A14 = EDIT(FieldA) | EDIT(FieldB);
HDate/HYYMDm = HINPUT(14, DateText, 8, 'HYYMDS');
BY COUNTRY NOPRINT
END

Waz...

Waz,

Wow! it almost look too easy!

The thing is, I'm starting on this thing and I'm a bit lost when it's time to exploit functions.

But with this one, I learned a lot!

Thanks to both of you guys!
