[SOLVED] Differentiating columns of joined datasources
In InfoAssist, I have joined two data sources. Between them, they have some columns of the same name. In InfoAssist without access to code or metaschema how do I tell which column is which?

you have an option to sort the fields in file order. use that. then the field names will appear in the order they are encountered in the join. Did you build the join? or did the architect of the business view build the join for you?

Hi Susannah

Thanks for the input.

I am writing documentation for IA users that will be building joins on their own without the benefit of architects. So, I am talking about what these IA users can do on their own in the Data Pane of the Resources Panel. As can be seen in this image, there is nothing overt or accessible via the context menu to differentiate between the Note and Description columns.

in RA , you had this cool feature that would sort the fields in filename order , in the order they were encountered in the JOIN. the default was Alphabetic, which wasn't too hot.

You might want to take a closer look at the manual!

From InfoAssist User's Manaul

quote:
[B]Data Panel[B]

Enables you to display data source fields in the Data pane (Resources Panel), using different views that are labeled Logical (the default), List, and Structured. All three views provide options for displaying each data source field as a Title, Description, or Field Name. The List view also includes options to show the Alias, Format, and Reference of each field. The Data Panel group is shown in the following image.

This is found in Chapter 3. Using the InfoAssist Application Window -> Accessing Properties Using the Control Panel -> Using the View Tab. It even has pretty pictures explaining the difference between the three options for the Data Panel.

In Structured or Logical view you can select from Title, Description, Field or Alias. The List view lets you see just about all the possible information you could want.

Cheers

Stuart

Thank you very much, Stuart. The Filename column of the List view shows me exactly what I am looking for.
