I'm having a problem with a WebFOCUS report displaying apostrophes and dashes (in the data fields -- text) as question marks. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I haven't been able to find anything in Help to address this issue. Thanks

Where is your data stored? You may being bit by an conversion issue to where the WebFOCUS app server is versus the data source, you may have to use CTRAN to fix.

Leah,

The data is stored in a SQL Database in text formatted fields.

I know this sounds silly but SQL is an access language, is it DB2, MicrosoftSQL, MySQL?

In otherwords is the original data stored in ASCII format or mainframe hexidecimal?

We are using Microsoft SQL Server database and hence all the database scripts were written in TSQL.

Does that answer the question? I'm getting this from our programmer.

So this should be ASCII to ASCII, what happens if you access with and sql call and just look at the data field.? Maybe there is another character there.

I can only assume (which may not be correct) that you are on a windows platform since you have no information in your profile. I have run into this issue often.

My problem was that I was copying text from an RTF (or MS Word) doc and pasting it into a fex. Well the beginning and ending quote marks and the apostrophe (“,”,’) that are used in those programs is NOT the same character as the ascii character (",",'). They don't translate as part of the standard font set supplied with WF. So you can get a different font set installed which will translate those characters, or use CTRAN as Leah suggests to change them to the ASCII representations of those characters.

Regards,

Darin
