Hi All.

This may sound simple but I cannot get my infoassist report to prompt me for a date range by which to filter my results on.
I am testing against a DATE type field on the Oracle database, and I have tried to use the From - To form of the prompt.
All it seems to want to do is to insist that I enter some values for it to start with.
I just want the user to have a completely free range so that they can type in any dates they want to.
Any help would be much appreciated. I have looked at the manual and it just seems to tell you how it's done in Webfocus.

Thank you...

Hi tcox,
In order to get a date range to work with the prompt feature I have had to use the same date field as 2 separate filters - one for the starting date and one for the ending date. The From-To doesn't allow the Prompt feature.
You have to define the date field as 2 new fields (eg. StartDate and EndDate) and then use each of them in the filter section. Set the StartDate to greater than or equal to (prompt using text input) and the EndDate to less than or equal to (prompt using text input).
When the prompt comes up the user would have to type the 2 dates separately.

WOW! that worked really well, once I had worked out a matching format for the date on our database. You would have thought that something this straightforward would have been much easier to implement.

Thank you for your help...

You can, if you wish, prompt them to select from dates retrieved from the database.I find that helps keep them from typing the date in the wrong format, but is only good if the extra reads of the database don't add too much overhead.

This is the solution I have given to my users as well. That doesn't change the fact that it should be able to prompt for two paramaters to do a from to. IBI add this to your product enhancement list.
