Hi,

User is passing values for a variable in the format below :
ADD DASF','ADD DASF Core','ADD DASF SSO

I need to convert it to the format:
ADD DASF;ADD DASF Core;ADD DASF SSO
(Any delimiter is fine)

Basically I want to replace ',' with ; .
Assuming that the format is some thing like this
ADD DASF;ADD DASF Core;ADD DASF SSO
I am able to fetch the individual values (ADD DASF , ADD DASF Core , ADD DASF SSO) based on the delimiter using the functions POSIT and SUBSTR and pass it on to my query.
But I am struck at the first step of replacing "','" with ";". I tried strrep also. But it din't work out for me.
Please let me know how I can accomplish this conversion.

STRREP would be correct. However the single quotes cause an issue, so use 2 or 3 single quotes depending what you are trying to achieve. 2 for SETting a field, 3 in STRREP:
-SET &STRING = 'ADD DASF'',''ADD DASF Core'',''ADD DASF SSO';
-TYPE &STRING
-SET &STR_LEN = &STRING.LENGTH;
-SET &STRING = STRREP(&STR_LEN,&STRING,3,''',''',1,';',&STR_LEN,'A&STR_LEN.EVAL');
-TYPE &STRING

Priya, Try CTRAN function to convert , to ;.
-SET &OUT_STRING=CTRAN(1024,&IN_STRING,44,59,'A1024');

44- decimal equivalent of ,
59- decimal equivalent of ;

To find decimal equivalent of any character in windows use CHARMAP from RUN prompt and use CALC to convert hex to decimal.

You can use CTRAN without having to figure out the Hex value (which is different for ASCII and EBCDIC) by incorporating BYTVAL into the code:

CTRAN(inlen, infield, BYTVAL('from','I3'), BYTVAL('to','I3'), output)

eg:

-*-- Convert Apostrophe to Right Single Quotation Mark -------------------------
-SET &OBJ_NAME4 =
-  CTRAN(&OBJ_NAME.LENGTH, &OBJ_NAME, BYTVAL('''','I3'), BYTVAL('’','I3'), 'A&OBJ_NAME.LENGTH');

Nice! I had not found any useful example illustrating the use of BYTVAL before.
