Dimesnion changing over time without complete reload.
Hi,

Customer is asking if my dimension
in this case class changes .
From class top & bottoms - to
class bottom and tops.

Can we update the dimension new and previous values without having to do a complete reload of the dimension and a complete reload of the measures?

Is an alternative updating the database directly?

Regards

If you're saying the levels must be reversed so that parent is child and child parent:

West
|_LA
|_SEA

To

LA
|_West
SEA
|_West

Then yes, you have to reload the dimension and all metrics, and no, there's no way to hack this into the data mart.

Hi,

Understood about the datamart.
Reversal of levels No.

It's really a case of a dimension description changing.

"Bottoms - Tops" changed
to another description
"Pants and Shirts only"

You mean the description, and not the name? In that case a save won't change anything else and is totally safe.

DataMigrator has built-in support for loading tables with Slowly Changing Dimension processing. Both Type I (overwriting history) and Type II (preserving history) changes are supported.
