A user recently emailed us directly:

If I have the Measure - Rolling 5 periods report on the page, Drill into Period to show location, I have various values including EAST. If I click on the COGS %age and select measure detail, then I get the measure detail for EAST. On the same line, I click COGS and Operational Report I do not get EAST, I do not get a location. If I drill into EAST to show location I get BOS, if I select an operational report for BOS I get EAST, but not BOS, drill again I get EAST and BOS, but not the level I am at.

This seems totally weird as I can drill on one part of the line and get the correct data, on another part of the line I get a higher level view.

Is this really correct, 'cause I don't know how I explain that to the users.

thanks

The base context - what the report is showing - is what's passed. Let's draw a picture in our minds.

I drill for Profit on EAST:

BOS 5,977,699 6,466,520 [ 92.4%]

OK. Now any fool would assume that if I drilled out from here it would pass EAST *and* BOS. But it won't. It will just pass EAST. Why? Let's drill on SOUTH:

DAL 1,753,472 2,167,125 [ 80.9%]
ORL 2,229,422 2,311,018 [ 96.5%]

There are two contexts shown here. If I drill to Operational report from here, which of these two do you want to pass?

And that's why you don't see all the drills when you drill out. That report can break out down (or sometimes across) multiple level values. Even if it doesn't show multiple values for a particular leaf, it cannot assume the next level of the drill for the data it is breaking out.

You could however add Operational Report to the detail for Actual and Target by changing the code in a_get_drill_down_meas. This way you could click on the value next to DAL or BOS and provided you had modified the program to pass on the values in the entire current context, you'd see them all on your Operational report. That would be a customization.

Hope this makes sense.
