Gadget Positioning and Deletion
Gadget designing is very interesting and more users friendly.

Removing or Moving the gadget within the page is tedious, if there is a radio button option beside the block in the Gadget design page, to move or remove might be more useful than removing from the last block.

Thanks

Thanks for the Feedback. We're constantly looking for suggestions like these to improve PMF.

The current Page Designer uses thin-client AJAX technology, but the canvas surface you're working in is more old-school and needs a total revamp; we were interested in getting the base functionality out to the public as soon as we could and this was the compromise.

In 2008 we will release a new Page Designer that's 100% WSIWYG also using AJAX technology. So the entire environment will be very friendly and intuitive. Imagine the Page Designer looking exactly like the current Preview screen, except you can drag the gadgets onto the canvas to create them, drag them around to move them and drag them off the canvas to delete them. And setting the defaults for each class instance on the page will be a direct action, clicking the Preferences button, just as end users do.

What do you think? Would that be a less awkward way to work?

many thanks

thanks.

Of note; since we won't have the new WYSIWIG capability until later in 2008, we've implemented your suggestion in the UI for the Page Designer. You now have a radio button to the left of each block, and Move Up, Move Down, Remove and Add buttons. You can pinpoint move or delete any block. Note that this will not reposition the blocks (the anchor point settings of Top and Left control this) but it makes it easier to lay the blocks out so they make logical sense to you while you're designing, and of course you can now insert blocks or remove them from the middle of the stack.

Let me know if you want this file; it should work with any existing PMF 4.2 install. It will not work with 4.1 or 4.0.

thanks
