I don't know if this is a silly question, but I know nothing of "performance metrics, unit costing, FTE forecasting" and someone has asked me if WebFOCUS would be a good reporting tool. Am I right in assuming that this relates to statistical analysis?

Thanks,

Nope ... well, not really. Most "performance metrics" as defined by the business communities, is technically nothing more than a collection of smallish reports. Some of the forecasting stuff can be enhanced using statistical scoring, but it really comes down to your client's definition of the metric in question.

In either case, WF is good for all of it. Look into PMF/PMM for basic performance metics (especially if your client is looking to add a management framework around it), and RSTAT for potential scoring type apps.

RSTAT - WebFOCUS RStat: Predictive Analytics and Scoring Applications
"Information Builders in the near future plans to introduce RStat, a fully functional engine integrated with Developer Studio for modeling and building scoring applications"

It doesn't appear to be in my v7.6.5 Dev Studio and I have found only that one article on the subject.

PMF/PMM -

WebFOCUS Performance Management Framework Release 4.2 and
WebFOCUS Performance Metrics Manager Release 4.2 are PDF documents on the subject.

Update! - OK, RSTAT is really new, v7.6.8 Using WebFOCUS RStat for Predictive Analytics

Thanks,

Francis

there's a webinar on the Rstat subject, one of those 1hr-long ones recorded by kathleen. a month or so ago. Rado gave it.
basically the developer uses devstu to write 'packages' of particular stat procedures, and then export this package over to the server to be used in fexes.

It seems that RSTAT is in Rel 7.6.8 Hot Fix 1.

I've downloaded it, but have not had the time to install and check it out.
