Java version for Webfocus 716
Hello Everyone,

Which version of Java we need to use with Webfocus 716. I checked the manual and it mentioned the webfocus 716 is not fully supporting Java 1.5 and recommended version is Java 1.4.2_12.

My machine has JRE 1.5 and one of the customer has JRE 1.6 and it works for both of us. Other customer has JRE 1.6 but it didn't work. It's really strange for me.

Am I miss anything?

Thanks

Are you talking about Developer Studio or WebFOCUS? Please clarify your question. And the installation guide for your platform has 3rd party software pre-requisites in it. I don't recommend going too far over the recommended java releases as it causes problems especially with Dev Studio.

JRE or JDK (SDK) makes a big difference

I am talking about MRE.

JG, I know the difference between JRE and JDK. I am talking about J2SDK versions (it consists both JRE and JDK).

My question is why the latest version of Java works on some browser and not on others.

That why they have "officially supported version." If you use the one that is supported, it will (should) always work. If you use a newer version, it may or may not work, but you're on your own. And you'll never get techsupport to say why because it's not officially supported. We happen to use the latest (1.6) JRE and have experienced very few issues. As JG mentions, it may make a difference whether you only have the JRE installed or the full SDK/JDK. I found it also matters sometimes whether you updated from a previous version or started out at the newer version.

Try this:
Remove all JDK/JRE
Install 1.4.2_12
Open MRE with the 1.4 version installed.
Update to 1.5 or 1.6
Open MRE again, this time with new version installed and see if it works.

I know it may sound a little weird, but I had a problem where everything worked with 1.6 except ReportCaster and this fixed the problem.

Darin

It worked good on my machine and after I installed Java 1.4 on users machine, it works good.

I just want to find some reason to tell them when they are asking. Because some user has some technical knowledge and they use to ask why the latest version is not working.

As long as it is working, everybody is happy.

Semi Technical usrers are and will always be a problem ,
They know enough about some things, but generally very little about how things work together.

WebFocus uses Java and specific versions of WebFocus are validated against specific versions of Java.

WebFocus changes, Java changes. You can never be 100% compatible.

The issue is very simple, what comes first the chicken or the egg.

Or for WebFocus do they implement a feature on a beta version of the delivery platform
or do they wait until it is part of a production release.

Oh! bye the way what is a production version of Java or Apache or Tomcat.
They are all free and without ANY warrantee for use.
