I am open for any suggestions or methods. Currently in a report I create an icon in the header that has an html link tag inside of it that opens up the users mailto program when clicked on and automatically supplies email addresses depending upon the request.
The requests can generate anywhere from about 10 email addresses (usually 20-50 characters each) to over a thousand addresses. With most browsers, this is fine. However, IE has a path limit of 2048 characters as shown here. This is a problem because that means it will allow for about 50 addresses (at the most).
Currently I implemented a very temporary workaround to open the lists in excel so the users can copy and paste into the mail program when there are too many for IE to handle.
Does anybody have any ideas or am I going have to create an IE specific workaround ?
Note: The link states that the post method is not limited by the size of the URL for submitting name/value pairs. These pairs are transferred in the header and not in the URL. Is there some way I could implement this with Webfocus or the Html Composer? I have messed a bit with it and have been unsuccessful.

I have used ASP in the past to circumvent the (ridiculous?) limit of around 2040 chars in a URL although I did not realise that emailto link was impacted in the same manner!
Is ASP an option for you?

Hmm...apparently other browsers are hitting this limit and all over the internet there are warning signs.
Of course there is ActiveX, but only with the windows/IE/outlook combination of course. I am wondering what the alternatives are for activex (besides plugins) and if there are ways to create outlook objects with the other browsers.
what about the universalxpconnect? I am afraid I am not familiar with this. This message has been edited. Last edited by: J,
