Just wondering - can you modify a file using data from another file? If that is possible, how is it done? I'm interested in comparing the data of one file against data in a second file and then deleting records from the second file if I find a match.
And, yes, this question somewhat dovetails into my earlier question about match logic.
Thanks you so much! This message has been edited. Last edited by: webmeister,
Webmeister, You can do that using either the MODIFY or MAINTAIN commands. The file that you want to modify must be either a FOCUS file or a relational table. The input file is a flat sequential file. I suggest you read about either in the manual.

You could probably join the files together, creating a file of the records that exist in both OR it also may be just as easy to use MATCH logic to create your hold file with OLD-AND-NEW operator. Then use MODIFY code to delete from the second based on records in your hold.
You're getting into the ETL realm, but what you're wanting to do IS possible using straight WF.

Thank you for replying - I appreciate it very much! Those were somewhat my thoughts also...I'm going to play around with a combination of MATCH and MODIFY logic as suggested ans see what I come up with.
