Why am I getting a computational field not recognized error message when I write in Virtual Define Field.

EQ is a logical comparison.

= is setting a value into another field.

You ought to use the latter and end the line with a ;

It's a part of the syntax for DEFINE and COMPUTE that ends the line so you can start another DEFINE if you want. Take a look at this doc starting at page 294. It'll give you the syntax and examples.
