Hi all,

We would like to compare the render times between the current version with new one for the same report. If we can do the comparison that will be a big help to improve the performance of the report.

By the way, all reports created by: “Type SQL statements in this report request”.

Thanks!

Maybe too much simple, but just add one
-TYPE &TOD

at the beginning of each version of the fex and another at the end and then compares both.

If you have at least one second from top to end, you'll see it.

When trying to do this in the past &TOD produced the same value regardless of run length -- the time at the start of the run.

We never did figure out a way to do this short of purchasing the Resource Analyzer feature in WF.

Maybe this way it will work (haven't tried)
-SET &STARTPROCESS = &TOD;
-RUN

...

-SET &ENDPROCESS = &TOD;
-RUN

I know that I made it already, just have to remember how.

What will actually work is:
-TYPE *** &TOD *** Start
Do a bunch of code...
-SET &TOD=HHMMSS('A8') ;
-TYPE *** &TOD *** Ended

I use this a lot. You can intersperse the last two lines as often as you like thru out your fex... Enjoy...

We have a utility that get the time and prints it.

It get the time down to milli or micro seconds

-SET &@Tim = FPRINT(HGETC(12,'HYYMDm'),'HYYMDm','A30') ;
-TYPE TimeCheck: &@Tim

Waz...

Add this at the beginning of the fex.
-RUN
-SET &TIMER = HTIME(8, HGETC(8, 'HYYMDm'), 'D20.8');
-TYPE &TIMER
-RUN

Add this to every step you'd like to monitor.
-RUN
-SET &TIMER_DELAY = HTIME(8, HGETC(8, 'HYYMDm'), 'D20.8') - &TIMER.EVAL;
-SET &TIMER = HTIME(8, HGETC(8, 'HYYMDm'), 'D20.8');
-TYPE &TIMER ( &TIMER_DELAY ms )
-RUN

It calculates expired time in ms between every step.

G'luck,
Dave
