Hi All,

I have a DB2 table with fields, say, A, B, C, D. I am assuming all the fields with 2 bytes.
The layout is as follows:
FIELD=A, A, A2, A2,MISSING=OFF,$
FIELD=B, B, A2, A2,MISSING=OFF,$
FIELD=C, C, A2, A2,MISSING=OFF,$
FIELD=D, D, A2, A2,MISSING=OFF,$

I have re-defined the master layout as follows:
GROUP=AB, AB, A4 ,A4,$
FIELD=A, A, A2, A2,MISSING=OFF,$
FIELD=B, B, A2, A2,MISSING=OFF,$
FIELD=C, C, A2, A2,MISSING=OFF,$
FIELD=D, D, A2, A2,MISSING=OFF,$

This definition is not working when I try to print the GROUP (AB) field. Can I achieve the above in any other way ?
Note: I don't want to use a DEFINE.

I don't beliieve that GROUP works with relational sources.

If you check the documentation, I think that is indicates this.


Is there ar reason for using groups ?

If you are willing to modify the master to define a group, why not modify the master to include a DEFINE?

FIELD=A, A, A2, A2,MISSING=OFF,$
FIELD=B, B, A2, A2,MISSING=OFF,$
FIELD=C, C, A2, A2,MISSING=OFF,$
FIELD=D, D, A2, A2,MISSING=OFF,$
DEFINE AB/A4 = A | B ; $

I want to join this DB2 table with another DB2 table which has the key value as concatenation of the "A" and "B" fields of the table for which I am trying to define a group.

Using DEFINEs in the FOCEXECs leads the job to run for a long time and when the date range is broadened, the job even fails, hence the idea.

It may be more efficient to use SQL to get the data out. All depends on the SQL genreated from the FOCUS code.
