In the old days there was a program provided by IBI to calulate the size of a focus database based on the master you created.
With today's cheap disk there is really no need to do this but let us say that the IT dept. what's you to let them know how much disk you will need. Is there anyway of answering that question?
Sure 2GB or 16GB is what WF database can be dependent on which WF version you run, but that does not answer the above question.
We are running with WF 7.6.4 in Windows Server 2003.This message has been edited. Last edited by: Robert Teo,
Multiply the pages by 4096 for a focus database and you will see it's size is as reflected by the operating system.
However the question is typical system management and of very little use in the real world unless you are charged on a usage basis, which it sounds like.
? is it a single segment FOCUS db. ? how many rows do you expect it to contain.
If it is a multi segment FOCUS FOCUS DB
? howmany segments do you expect.
The calculation is very straight forward but it's based totally on how much data you have.
If you have a 1,000 rows you need X if you have 1,000,000 rows you need X * 1000 (plus a couple of %)
Past experiance at various clients that have a disk usage charge is that the are in bands.
Make your best estimate and see where it drops into the banding scheme, add 25% and if it does not take you into the next band stick with it, if it does go for the next higher band.
If the reason is not because of charge back for usage, tell them you need 50 terrabytes and that should cover all possible requirements.
