There's JS and CSS files in the App folder on the server, they don't show up in Developer Studio 5.3.4 > Projects > Project Name > HTML Files folder.

They show up in the WebFOCUS Environments > Environment Name > Data Servers > Server Name > Applications > App Folder

and in WebFOCUS Environments > Environment Name > Web Applications > App Folder .

I never really understood what the Projects are for really and now that I've discovered that JS and CSS files are not showing up, Projects seem even less useful.

Francis,

Projects are folders on the Reporting server and the Web Applications folders are on the client server. Normally two different machines although amny sites will install them on one machine for ease(!?!) of use.

Basically the JS and CSS files need to be on the client server (aka the web server) or wher your IIS, Apache or other web service is installed.

Never use them myself and they are confined to area 51 along with the GUI!!

Tony, the web server, Apache, is on the same server as the WebFOCUS server, hence all my Fex, HTML, JS and CSS files are in the same App folder. The only reason I thought I'd use Projects in Dev Studio is that this is the only place I can right-click a fex and select "Open in EditPlus" (my preferred text editor). I can't do this from the Server area, nor the Web Applications area.

As they used to say in the moovees, I'm gonna deep six this baby!

That explains it then.

At my current client I use DS against Dev, UAT and Prod remotely so the Projects Folders are not relevant. Although I have the DS server(s) running on a local machine, I do not use the Projects and have taken the option not to show them on the explorer tree.

As I said earlier, an area 51 app!

Francis,

Using the projects folders seems to be complicated if you are not familiar with it, but once you know it a bit better you will see it's very easy to use and you have more possibilities than with the server environments. Once you have the hang of it you will love it.

You realy can see all the extensions in the projects folder as you like and are know by your OS. The only thing you have to do is the following:
- rightclick the project folder and choose Edit filter.
- click the edit filter tab and see if you can find the extension(s) you want to see in your projects folder. If it is there it's OK if not you simply add it by clicking the paper icon in the top right corner.
- Once you have the extentions you want in the list you have to decide in which virtual folder you want them. Ex. If you want to see them in a virtual folder called "Web content" just create it by rightclicking the project folder and choose New, Virtual Folder .... Or just use an existing virtual folder.
- Rightclick the chosen folder and click the edit filter tab. Check the extention you want to see and click ok. and you're done

Make sure that the files you want to see are in the application path!!!!! If not you will not see them. Since your Cient & Reporting server are installed on the same machine and you applications path is probably pointing to the disk:/.../ibi/apps for both the client and the server I think you'll be ok.
Hope this helps. Wink

Dirk, you must be talking about a Dev Studio version newer than my 5.3.4 version. I see the "Edit Filters" tab and several extensions are listed (css and js are not), there is no "paper button" on this dialog box. It does seem odd that two common components of web pages are not included by default. And, what are "for" files?

The first image is the result of clicking on Properties of a project.

The second image is the result of clicking on the Filters button on the Explorer toolbar.

It seems to me that the "Add new file type filter(s)" and the "Remove file type filter(s)" buttons were inadvertently left off Properties > Edit Filters.

Francis,

Indeed my explanation was based on a WF 7.x Dev. Studio version. But if I remember well, this possiblity of adding new file extentions to your project is also available in the version you have. I'll check it to be sure.

Tony, I really don't understand your remark. Or maybe it's my english or it's just a joke? Big Grin

Dirk,

Yes, it was an attempt at English humour (USA - note how to spell humour correctly Big Grin).

You may not know but Francis has been coding in Focus for a while and the phase "Teaching Grandma to suck eggs" is the phrase to which I was eluding Smiler

Dirk, as I mentioned, I found the option to add the extensions, it just wasn't in the place I thought it should have been.

Francis,

I'm glad you found it Wink .

Tony,

Thanks for your explanation. I just joined this forum a little while ago. It seems I've got a lot to learn about the people and their humour at this forum. Winky

Kind regards
