In a typical Business Intelligence (BI) environment, the cycle starts when a business event takes place.
For instance, a file is written to the server and sent via FTP for further processing. An Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) routine then delivers the event record to the data warehouse. Finally, analytical processing turns the data into information to help the decision-making process and a business decision leads to a corresponding action. During each cycle, the data warehouse tables are refreshed and the process is repeated.
