[CLOSED] Excel Output Password Protect - Report Caster
Hello,

I am trying to figure out how to go about setting up Report Caster so that once the output file has come through email it holds a password in the Excel file when the end user opens the file/zip file.

I have read a few suggestions on the forums already, but none of those have worked for me.

This is documented in the Report Caster Guide under the subject of Creating and Maintaining Distribution Lists > Creating an External Distribution File. Search for External Distribution.

According to the doc: "You can include a password in a Distribution File. If you include a password in a Distribution File, the distribution output is encrypted in a password protected Zip file if the Zip option is selected. "

Hello,

That is what we have tried, but unfortunately the requirement is to do this process without zipping the file.

I am not sure who to go about doing this and if it can even be done.

Any suggestions?

Thank You,
Jennifer

You should open a case with IB tech support. I'm not sure if you can actually password protect an xlsx file. If you find out, could you please post the technique? I could use the same thing.

Hi Jen

If you want to password protect the output you can use AHTML as there are options to both password protect and expire the output. If it needs to be XLSX I agree with Babak, please open a case.

Thank you for using Focal Point!

Hi Jen, You could create an excel file as a template. That file would have the password in it. You would upload the file to the server and then use WebFOCUS to write to a tab inside of it.

Warning: I have never tried it and it may fail due to permission errors.
