[SOLVED] fexes to populate drop down controls in a launch page
I have created a few fexes to populate drop down controls in a launch page (created
in HTML Composer). As the output from these procedures can take a long time to load in the launch page, I am considering just creating flat files to store the data so I the controls will populate efficiently.

Can anyone provide some examples to help me set this up in Dev. Studio?

Thanks!

To be clear, my real question is what is the proper (generic) file path used in a FILEDEF to store
.FTM, .DAT or .TXT files ?

Have a scheduled process create the files, in HTML syntax. Use filedef and !IBI.FIL to include them in your HTML. You can search the forum / or help documentation for the commands to get the syntax and examples.

On 7.6.10 and up, you can use TABLE requests on such files (flat, focus DB, etc.) in either "embedded" or "external" procedures. In the latter case, don't forget to PCHOLD them as XML Wink

Yes, I have written a few fexes to populate drop down controls. In doing so I have used TABLE requests and PCHOLD'ed them in XML format.

The problem is takes sooooo long to run these
routines as the source table is quite large.
I am trying to design a way to run the procedure perhaps once a day to create the XML file, then load the launch page and controls from these xml-formatted files.

We do this all the time but with FTM formatted files via ReportCaster as a scheduler.
