[SOLVED] WebFOCUS 8 - Maps
Hello

Can someone provide an example to work with maps in WebFOCUS 8?
In HTML composer there is a "Map" component. It shows Google map. What is ESRI map?

Thanks

As I understand it, WebFocus 8 has three types of maps: WebFocus supplied maps, Google Maps, and ESRI maps. ESRI is a third-party mapping solution, and if you organization is not already working with ESRI, ESRI maps will cost you money.

Getting started with WebFocus maps is easy. On your WebFocus server, you should have a directory something like the following: C:\ibi\WebFOCUS80\webapps\webfocus\tdg\jschart\distribution\map.

In that directory there should be a bunch of *.json map files, as well as a UIMaps.xml file. You can add your own .json map files, to define different geographical areas. In order to create a report using the map file, that file must be added to UIMaps.xml, and the webserver restarted, as I understand it.

From there, it's pretty straightforward to build a map: New > Chart, then choose Map on the Format tab. A handful of maps are already defined in UIMaps.xml, so you don't have to do any of the preceding unless you want to expand your mapping options.

I don't have any experience with Google Maps in WebFocus.

WebFOCUS maps uses an opensource javascript engine called Leaflet.js for its maps. With the WebFOCUS supplied maps you could create CHOROPLETH or BUBBLE maps. For creating these maps, just select Maps from WebFOCUS Charting.

ESRI mapping

A dedicated ESRI mapping needs ArcGIS licencing and account. This is necessary only if you want to use 'GIS Flex Viewer' in the HTML Composer

Google Maps

HTML Composer contains a Maps object which uses Google/Bing maps. A google map with markers can be done using this feature. There is a simple step by step procedure of creating and using WebFOCUS procedures for Maps in App Studio.

By default the Google maps are configured. No additional configuration is required to use this feature. Bing maps needed licencing.
