[SOLVED] Migration from 7.7.03 to 8.0.0.4

Hi,

We're pretty new to WebFocus and currently have 7.7.03. We have the update for 8.0.04 on a Windows 2008 R2 server.
The Developer Studio, database and webserver are all on different servers. We also have a DEV, TEST and Production environments for each of the servers.

We're not using a lot of the WebFocus features yet. ReportCaster is installed but not being used yet. So really, all we are doing is making dashboards.

I'm hoping the upgrade should be pretty straight forward. I've read through the migration documentation and it doesn't sound too complicated. I plan on migrating the DEV environment first as a test. Everything is backed up so I have no worries if I break anything. If all goes well I'll work my way up to Production.

Is there anything I should be made aware of about the migration process? I'm upgrading to the same boxes. So Tomcat and Java will be updated as well.

Is there an order of steps I should be following? Upgrade everything then run the migration or export from 7.7 then upgrade and import into 8.0?

Just want to cover the bases before I jump.

Thanks,
Brian

We've been watching the discussions and planning our future upgrade. As an observation, the most difficult part of all seems to be restructuring your entire security setup as that has been entirely rewritten.

Hi Kevin,

We are so new to WebFOCUS that we only have 5 users at this time and our security is very flat at this time.

Our plan is to use AD authentication after we do the upgrade. That should make the security changes for the migration very minimal. As long as I can still log in after the upgrade.

Brian,

Yours is pretty straight forward. You shouldn't see any hiccups as long as you follow the steps.
