I have a very simple fixed-format file with only 3 fields, and also of course a very simple MFD. However, in a small FOCEXEC, where I have one define made up of one field and a 3 character prefix, when I try the following, I see no resulting data, except for the 3-digit prefix I defined. Here's my code:
Define file AUD002 rmkkey /a12 = '001' | employee_id end table file aud002 print rmkkey employee_id job_code location_code end
If anyone can offer a thought or two, I sure would be happy to hear them. Thanks in advanc.This message has been edited. Last edited by: webmeister,
The missing semi-colon was a typo on my sie... in my FOCEXEC the semi-colon is present. The employee_id is alpha. Yes, that was the way I type it in...lower-case.
Interesting note.... I commented out the filedf portion and then I was able to see my data duing a print. Seems I am doing something incorrectly in my filedef.
Here is my original FOCEXEC

-INCLUDE FOCDEF
-SET &TITLE = ' ';
-DEFAULT &PRG = 'TEST ';

DEFINE FILE AUD002
RMKKEY /A12 = '100'|EMPLOYEE_ID;
END

PRINT EMPLOYEE_ID JOB_CODE LOCATION_CODE

Thanks for replying. I decided, where my PC is my interface to my mainframe, to reboot my PC and my problem disappeared. I can now see my data. I'm not asking why, I'm just happy to see my data!
Again, thanks for replying to my initial plicht...I appreciate that you took the time and effort to do so.
A DM remark : I know plenty of people are confused between -SET and -DEFAULT But, Please, NO ';' in -DEFAULT where you can give default Values for more than a DM Variable -DEFAULTS &LEVEL1 = 'VIRTUOSO', &LEVEL99 ='LEARNER' And, Still Please, don't Forget ';' in a -SET that concerns One and Unique DM Variable Can't you hear Focus laughing when you fall in one of his silly tricks, don't let him this childish pleasure (that costs you plenty of time) More vicious : Focus will wait for Version X.Y to make you fall down. He loves delayed bad tricks So, be as rigid with Focus syntax as an old Monk. Focusly yours

Of course we have the confusion of SET versus -SET as well. SET is system variable and depending on where it is 'set' you need or don't need an '=' sign, and heaven forbid, no 'semi-colon' on SET. I like Old Monk comment.
