Without seeing your code it's hard to say for sure. A parameter will take any value - regardless of the format, because it is always taken as a string (although it can be later used as a number). The error you're getting will probably have to do with how you're setting the value or how you're trying to subsequently use the parameter. Make sure your use of quote marks is appropriate. As Ginny mentioned, posting your code would allow us to help you better. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Darin Lee,

Here's guessing in the dark: If the DM variable is, for example: -SET &MyValue = 'ABCD' ; and it is being used in a WHERE statement as: WHERE FIELD1 EQ '&MyValue' (where: FIELD1 is an "A3" or I3, or any other numberic format). That give you that error...

That would give you an error, but it would not be that error. You would probably get a COMPARISON BETWEEN COMPUTATIONAL AND ALPHA VALUES IS NOT ALLOWED

Darin

That's right Darin... I should have run it thru WebFOCUS first for verification... I knew it was AN error... Could it be due to a DEFINE of a numberic DM variable to an alpha formatted field? Hey, it's dark in here without the light of shmulik's code to guide us thru this guessing game... I'll wait for the code...
