[SHARING] IBM DB2 Web Query
When it was announced that Information Builders developed IBM DB2 Web Query I was excited that a whole new set of clients was using a WebFOCUS-based tool, perhaps leading to more contract work.

I haven't seen much IBM DB2 Web Query related activity on the forum so they either have their own forum or it works so well, people don't need help.

Anyone on the WebFOCUS forum working with IBM DB2 Web Query?

Hello Francis,

I have just received a new Power 6 iseries server.
I'm doing the installation and configuration of this machine.
I have DB2 web query options installed on it but I did not yet have time to do some tests.
I will let you know when I will start to test it.
Cheers,
Catherine

Cati,

ANY TIME you need a WebFOCUS (or IBM DB2 Web Query) developer in Paris, please think of me! I worked in Paris for two years at Pechiney Electrometallurgie and would love to return.

Si vous avez besoin d'un développeur à Paris, pensez à moi, s'il vous plaît ! J'ai travaillé à Paris pendant deux ans chez Pechiney Electrometallurgie et je serais ravi de revenir. Paris est ma ville préférée.

Merci.

Francis

We just moved from DB2 WQ to WF. What are you interested in knowing about?

Your statement mentions that "they either have their own forum or it works so well, people don't need help."

Answer: Yes, the WQ forums are at IBM WQ Forum
No, the tool doesn't work so well. Basically, it is report assistant in a VERY stripped down version. IBM intentionally designed their tool to publish old Query 400 SQL reports to the web and didn't plan on anyone using it for any sort of robust reporting. Basically if you just need to do basic SELECT...FROM...WHERE reports and put some pretty colors on them, WQ will be fine. However, for us, we were building a full BI application and WQ was extremely limiting.

I was curious if there are lots of WQ users. I did not realize WQ is a stripped down version of Report Assist.

Thanks,

Francis

Oh yes. You cant even code native FOCUS language because they've built something into it that converts the code into some language that they want to see and FOCUS causes .fex files to crash. I mean, I know a few places that are using it and LOVE it, but mostly they're just using them to run transactional reports on their operational system. No analytical or historical anything, just "Show me the number of policies by Account X" sort of thing.
