[CLOSED] Encrypted fex hard sets &ECHO to OFF
We have a large application with many fexes, all encrypted.
User can -INCLUDE but not see.
As of now, 8.2, once an encrypted fex is -INCLUDEd, &ECHO is turned off and cannot be turned back on in the calling fex.
Has anybody noticed?

As usual, one should read the manual...
Could it be that with encryption DEFECHO is set to NONE "under the covers"?

I don't know the answer to this.. If it is still an issue I suggest you open a case with techsupport.

Back when all FOCUS library files had LRECL=80 (a la CMS), there was a way to decrypt any encrypted file without a priori knowledge of the encryption password. (Hint: after encrypting and then decrypting a file, columns 73-80 of the first line would turn blank)

Since reporting server can (still) read any encrypted fex or mas file, in principle that must still be possible. Now that recfm is variable, they probably append a hashed copy of the key to the first line, where the server (or anyone else who has the magic key) can find and reveal it.
