Hello,

I am fairly new to WebFocus and would like to know the difference between the 2 common output formats used for scheduled reports which are distributed to customers via SFTP - ALPHA vs DFIX DELIMITER.
ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT DFIX DELIMITER ; HEADER YES

ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT ALPHA

Is there any particular reason to use either or?

Thanks in advance!

I think that you can have the answer by yourself.

Run the below twice using the different output format then open the ".ftm" file in text editor and you'll see.
In DFIX you have the field heading, the defined field separator and the field's value are "truncated" to their lowest length (not taking more space than the character string does).

APP HOLD BASEAPP
END
TABLE FILE CAR
BY SEATS
BY COUNTRY
-*ON TABLE HOLD AS TMP FORMAT ALPHA
ON TABLE HOLD AS DTMP FORMAT DFIX DELIMITER ; HEADER YES
END

It's all a question of need.
