We are on Webfocus 7.1.1 and recently converted an oracle database to UTF-8 characterset due to vendor upgrade requirements. When I recreated our synonyms, all the varchar2 column lengths are multiplied by a factor of 4. Our vendor defaults most of their varchar2 to either 64 or 255 lengths. So now when you go to join two tables of very long views it's easy to get a (FOC336) THE SUM OF ALL FIELD LENGTHS EXCEEDS MAXIMUM error. I've tried changing the NLS characterset, using dynamic columns, and set synonym=basic and set synonym=extended; oracle parms include ENGINE SQLORA SET VARCHAR OFF and ENGINE SQLORA SET ORACHAR VAR. Any ideas what to try next? This message has been edited. Last edited by: Kerry,

You do not say which platform or operating system version you are on. Nor do you say which version of Oracle you are using.
If you are talking UTF8 then I assume it's Oracle 10g
10g is not supported on all WebFocus 7.1.1 versions and platforms however if you use a version 9.2 Oracle client then you will be able to access it but it will not fully support UTF8.
