The question is: how are you going to get data into it?
There are two basic ways to do this.
Write a report against a file that has data that you want to populate the new file and hold the output in FOCUS format. E.g.
APP HOLD dirname
TABLE FILE CAR
PRINT SALES RETAIL_COST DELEAR_COST
BY COUNTRY
BY CAR
BY MODEL
ON TABLE HOLD AS CARFOC FORMAT FOCUS INDEX COUNTRY
END
This creates both the .mas and .foc files in the 'dirname' directory.
Another way is to use the synonym editor to create the master for your FOCUS file. You might want to add the DATASET parameter. Then issue a CREATE FILE against the master to physically create the file.
You now have to figure out how to load it. You can use a FIXFORM MODIFY or a MAINTAIN procedure to do this. There are also other ways.
This is only to help you get started. You need some training and you need to do a little reading. Good luck.
