Has anyone used the SQL term CONNECT BY? CONNECT BY is a hierarchy request. I'm looking to insert this phrase in the midst of a where clause.

Winston,

I'm not an SQL expert but here is a sample using CONNECT BY command that was written by someone in my office :

 SQL SQLORA

 SELECT HA_USERLEVEL

 FROM HABILITATION_ARBO

 START WITH HA_USERLEVEL = '&p_cc'
 AND HC_HABCODE = 'CC'
 AND HA_CDBANK = '&p_bank'

 CONNECT BY (PRIOR HC_HABCODE = HC_HABCODE
 AND PRIOR HA_CDLEVEL = HA_FATHER
 AND           PRIOR HA_CDBANK  =  HA_CDBANK) ;

 TABLE
ON TABLE HOLD AS CRCC FORMAT ALPHA
 END
-RUN

Hope this will help you,
Michel

The connect by retrieves the hierarchy dependent on a node. It retrieves the data as a relational table but sets the special column 'LEVEL' according to the depth of the Hierarchy. Using this you can build an appropriate indent to display the hierarchy.

This is probably better done in wf as FML hierarchies using PARENT_OF, CAPTION in the MASTER and then FOR ... WITH CHILDREN.

Try this - it's a feature that works very well
