Hi,

I've used the synonym editor to add remarks, descriptions, etc. to my MFDs. I would like to be able to produce a report on this information, in order to create a data dictionary that can be used by non-technical users when they write their own reports. Where the heck is this stuff stored? I tried SYSTABLE but I'm not seeing much there. Thanks.

Mike

try this. It's worth exploring this table cause it's got all information about tables and views, as well as all other files.

TABLE FILE SYSCOLUM
PRINT
NAME
TITLE
REMARKS
BY
TBNAME
END

Funny that a PRINT * results in zero rows:

TABLE FILE SYSCOLUM
PRINT
TBNAME
NAME
TITLE
*
WHERE TBNAME CONTAINS 'ggs'
END

While this works:
TABLE FILE SYSCOLUM
PRINT
TBNAME
NAME
TITLE
WHERE TBNAME CONTAINS 'ggs'
END

Hi, thanks for the responses. I already have SYSCOLUM and it's great. What I really need is the description for the table itself, and if I could join that to the column list it would be even more wonderful.

Your table description should be in the REMARKS column of table SYSTABLE.

SYSCOLUM is a multisegment master, if there is no data in one of the segments, then the whole record will not return.

It looks like the lowest segment is not loaded, at least not in this shop.

PRINT
SEG.TBNAME
SEG.SEGNO
SEG.NAME

works

The lowest seg is for accept values - nowadays hardly ever used any more.
You can also set all to on and do print * - that will also work.
