We are planning to upgrade our webfocus installation from 7.1.4 to 7.6.10 so that we could be able to use advanced features available in new release like info assist. But I am confused if this could be a direct upgrade or we do upgrade to some intermediate release before going to 7.6.10. We are currently using LDAP authentication, ORCL authorisation with current version. Will usage be same in the new version or not? Has somebody done such a migration/upgradation in their organisation? Kindly give your inputs on this proposed activity.
Regards, Deepak

The general rule of thumb is to hit every major release in the upgrade process.
In your case going from 71x to 76x, there is not a major release level inbetween, so you should be fine.
If your install was 53x, you'd want to hit a 71x before upgrading to a 76x.
Usage of the features you are using will be pretty much the same. You'll notice additional and new options available in the WebFOCUS Admin Console, as well as other increased functionality. However there have mostly been new things added, and not too many things moved around.
Thanks everybody for your inputs. One more thing which I am confused with is the repository database. If I do the full install, can I give the reference to existing database being used or should i point the installation to a new database and then move the data on to the new database. As I understand, WF internally fires some queries to drop the table and create it. Will my existing database be at risk if i use it for the new installation? This message has been edited. See "Migrating with the realm driver" starting on page 182.
See also "Migrating Your ReportCaster Repository" starting on page 210.
These sections will outline what you need to do in order to accomplish what you are looking for.
If you simply drop and recreate the new tables, you will lose all of your prior data. If you however, follow the steps outlined in these documents you will be fine.
