Has anyone ever coded a text string like, 'Mary had a little lamb'
and needed it to display like, 'Mary had a "little" lamb' ?

The text needs to be in a dialog manager variable.

Thanks!

How about this?

-SET &TST = '''Mary had a "little" lamb''';
-*
-TYPE TST ---- &TST
-EXIT

Then I want to print it in a report heading.

TABLE FILE CAR
HEADING CENTER
" &TST "
PRINT
CAR
MODEL
BY COUNTRY
END
-RUN

When this code is executed, you'll
see the error.

Or create DEFINE field and use that in the heading.

I need to display this in an EXL2K report. Perhaps I should stick with the old fashioned
single quote.

Sometime the old ways are the best ways.

Waz wins with the correct answer:

-SET &TST = 'MARY HAD A "LITTLE" LAMB';

DEFINE FILE CAR
HEAD1/A400 = '&TST';
END

TABLE FILE CAR

HEADING CENTER
"<HEAD1"

PRINT
CAR
MODEL

BY COUNTRY
END
-RUN

THANK YOU FRANCIS, WAZ AND jfr99.

Can you help me understand why the &TST variable had to be put into a DEFINE variable
so it will display in an EXL2K spreadsheet ?

Thank you

It has nothing to do with Excel but everything to do with HEADING:

HEADING
"Mary had a "little" lamb"
cannot be interpreted correctly.
