This has happened several times already. I've been working on a procedure containing an SQL report, doing frequent saves, and switching back and forth between physical view and text view. Save it, close it, come back to it and find that random swaths of code have DISAPPEARED! Colleagues with more experience than me have had the same thing happen. Has anyone else had this problem? Has it got something to do with switching views?

Yes

If you develop your reports with the GUI you see several different containers, pe a define and a table.
If you are in the table container with the GUI and you switch to text view you can change every thing between the code that starts with TABLE FILE ....
And that ends with
END
all you enter before or after this will be lost when you go back to the gui view.

If you want to edit the whole code you can do that by opening he code in the editor in stead of the GUI.

I think the rule should be:

Live by the point and click, be stuck with the point and click.

Use a text editor and be in control.

Old coders never die, they just keep complaining about the new stuff.

Nothing wrong with that. I'm a relatively new coder and I do the same!

Thank you Frank. For the past few days I've been editing either in code or in the GUI but not mixing the two, and the problem hasn't reoccurred.

And it is a pretty good way for a newbie like me to learn the code - which I gather from the rest of you is a good idea.

Thx again all.
