However when I do the following steps in the WebFOCUS Server webconsole:
1) Click on Data Adapters. 2) Click on Adapters > Add 3) SQL>ODBC>Select the ODBC adapter 4) Get the following message:
Maximum Number of Adapters has been reached. Only free adapters may be added at this point.
Currently the server is using the Oracle adapter. Does this mean that my company is required to buy the ODBC adapter? Anyone has any idea how much??
I have tried in the WebFOCUS developer server and everything works fine with the excel ODBC but then again the developer version has unlimited adapters. This message has been edited. Last edited by: FP Mod Chuck,

We are in the same situation, our licence on the WebFOCUS server only allows us to have one relational source. try to add another and you get that error.
What you may want to try, is to see if oracle can connect to the source, then connect through Oracle.
I haven't done it my self, but may work.
The best thing to do is to get another licence though.
Pity your licence isn't SQL Server as it can connect to EXCEL workbooks and represent them as a relational source.
You shouldn't need an ODBC connector for an EXCEL sheet, it is not a relational database. Just save the sheet as either .PRN (positional) or .CSV (comma delimited) and put it in your AP PATH and treat it as a flat file.
By the way, they are a pain to work with, so avoid it if you can.

You are not licensed for an additional adapter. Thus, the "Maximum Number of Adapters has been reached" message. I would go with Pat's advice to save it in CSV and read it as a flat file. You will need to create your own MFD to describe it.

Call your Information Builders Account Executive, and see what the price tag would be for your environment. Then you can evaluate what solutions would make sense for your needs.
