I've searched the forum, and I know this has been answered before, but the answers don't make any sense to me (I'm still very know at WebFocus. Sorry )
I have an alpha field (A38). When it prints out in PDF or HTML, the column that contains that field is, of course, 38 characters wide, even if none of the records in that column are close to being that wide (on the PDF, it's pushing the report to two pages).
So, I'm trying to truncate the field to the width of the longest value in that column. Here's my latest attempt:
But, since DGNNAME is 38 characters long, that's not helping me. How can I fix the report to make the column only as wide as it absolutely needs to be?
We're using WebFocus 5.1. Thanks for any help! This message has been edited. Last edited by: Kerry,
This shouldn't be happening for HTML. Any HTML page displays multiple contiguous blanks as one. In WebFOCUS trailing spaces are never carried over to the report. In PDF, simply add the following to your stylesheet, the column will be as wide as the non-blank portion:
ON TABLE SET STYLESHEET * TYPE = REPORT, SQUEEZE=ON, $ ENDSTYLE
If you're already using a TYPE=REPORT stlyesheet clause, just add the SQUEEZE=ON tag to it.
