Hi.

My XP pc died last Friday and my new pc will arrive shortly with Windows 7 Pro

Our version of developer studio is 7.6.4 which ( from what i read in Focal Point ) will not work on win 7

My question is: can we upgrade developer studio without touching the web server or the data server

Thank you.

The easy answer is "yes you can", the caveat being "expect to have issues." In general the code that worked before will still work. I did find a few issues with server communications and Master Files when using an advanced DevStudio version against an older WF server and web server. The real problem will be that the newer Dev Studio will allow you to add code and functionality that is not support by the previous Wf Client and server and may cause agent and/or server crashes.

Bottom line, it is not adviseable. However, if you program using code only (NOT the GUI interface) you may be able to get by until you can get a server and client upgrade. If there ARE any issues, IB Tech Support will tell you that this configuration is not supported, and you're pretty much on your own.

My co-worker tested Windows 7 and 7.6.1 and said no problems. We moving to Windows 7 in November...so hope he's right.

I have been using 7.6.4 Dev Studio with Windows 7 for the past few months. It works with no problems.

My son told me that Windows 7 has an XP emulation mode, perhaps this may help.

OMG, I feel old....

Pity the lost knowledge of an old programmer!

YKK, just install it on your win7 machine and start using it. You'll probably find that it works like you're used to. The official IBI standpoint may be that the 764 version is not certified for use with win7, but it will very likely just run ok.

We found that you can not write HTML front ends in IE8 which comes with Windows 7. The OnClick command does not get built. I even tried manually coding the OnClick and it would not save. We are on WF 7.6.1
