Hi all,

Is there a way to add a description to a virtual (define) field? The reason being I want the user to see a description of the virtual field just by hovering over it using Report Assistant. I can see other properties like segment, name, alias, title, description and format but most of them are blank.

If the virtual field is defined in the Master File Description, then yes you can add a description. Creating a virtual field in the tool, I haven't found a way to do this yet. You can also determine which field properties are listed in the RA tool for your users by editing …\ibi\WebFOCUS71\ibi_html\javaassist\ibi\html\assist\repasst.js. These settings are found under the // Field List Options section.

Also, to get the properties with missing values filled in in RA, you must add those properties to the MFD.

Thanks for the reply Kevin. Unfortunately, the virtual field is created using the tool(adhoc). If the user, for example, create 100 virtual fields, it would be easier to have a description on what the field does, unless of course it was defined with a really descriptive name, i.e. CURRENTDATEMINUSHOLDDATEINDAYS.
