Standards are slipping...
... I think we need to put on our RTFM t-shirts...

Please Read The FOCUS Manual.

Ohhhhhh so RTFM is an acronym for "Read The Focus Manual"??? I thought it stood for something else. Oh my - I've been mistaken for sooooooooo long.

So then STFU must stand for "Start The Focus Upgrade" then huh?

Wow - I've been so ignorant. :-(

I second the emotion.

In the newbie defense, sometimes it's hard to know where to look since I am not sure the Focus term for a concept I may be looking for information on. Sort of like looking up an unfamiliar word in the dictionary to get the spelling.

Personally - Thanks everyone for your nudges to the manual when appropriate and also offering an outright answer when appropriate. You've all helped me on my journey so far.

I Third the motion.

There are too many simple questions, that a quick search of the forum or documentation would resolve.

Seems many can't/won't do simple checks.

I think on the back of the shirt should read ATFC, Attend The FOCUS Course.

I also think that the best and worst thing about the forum is that there is so much help from everyone, that it is too easy to get answers.

Yes, sometimes.

However, I have found it is not always that easy to find things. The built in WF help is very rudimentary. It often won't find words you know are there. You can't combine words, and special symbols aren't allowed (&,-, etc.). The Index is not complete.

Many of the key words in WF can be used in the explainations and they may have multiple meanings. Also, it is hard to differentiate between IBI products, like reporting and maintain.

I am a contractor, and do not have access to printed manuals. So I can only use online resources or the PDFs I downloaded. There may be manuals that can be purchased or books that would help (I would love to have the book on WF dates), but I can't buy them on my own.

Don't get me wrong, looking things up is good. I am just saying there are many problems.

I'm sure you could buy the dates manual at the very least?

As for the other manuals, the PDFs are just as good.

Yes, the search facility is lousy on the "Compiled HTML Help file" which I think is the fault of Windows.

The PDF documents are a lot better - I sometimes use Adobe Acrobat Reader to search a whole folder of PDF documents for a keyword or combination of keywords.

Francis, I agree.

I've downloaded all the manuals in PDF format, and have them locally.

After using the manuals a while you will know which manual to look though to find what you want.

OK, I must admit I couldn't look straight into Donald Southerland's eyes and say to him I RTFM.

So Francis, how do you find it fascinating RTFM before bedtime?
