Hi,
I have some general questions,
how are the aggregations handled in WebFocus development. Are these defined in Master File or at the report level?
What is the best way to implement the aggregations in case of huge data(millions of records), is it at Master file level or Report level or Direct SQL PASSTHRU?

Please let me know what is IBI recommendation for the same.

Aggregations are done at the report level or via passthru. If done through the former against a relational engine, the goal is to pass the aggregation to the data base engine. This is called optimization. You can do traces on your generated code to make sure that it is optimized. There are many discussions on this forum and the IBI site on relational efficiencies, optimization, etc. that you can check out to get more information.

What is the best way to provide the Ad-hoc capability to Business User?

As Ginny says aggregations in WebFOCUS are generated at run time unless you are using a multi-dimensions data source such as OLAP/ROLAP
In which case the aggregations already exist and are retrieved directly.

There is no concept of aggregations in WebFOCUS master data unless it is implicit in the data source
or implemented via views.

If your data consists of millions of rows and your reporting is at an aggregated level then
seriously look at creating tables at the required summary levels that will give you the best performance.
