IE9 is slightly better than IE8. If the HTML page is running from BID, it's running in quirks mode which pushes IE8 and IE9 back to the stone age of IE6. You shouldn't have any major issues...

thanks frankie i installed ie9 on my server and now, when i run, oh say, carinst.fex, it opens in a new tab in the same ie session, meaning i can't move it around my screen and hold on to it while i run something else. Is there a global setting in ie9 i should make? or one in MRE i should make? any ideas?

This might work: IE > Tools > Internet Options > Tabs > Settings > When a pop-up is encountered OR Open links from other programs... Perhaps setting these to "a new window" will change that annoying behaviour.

thanks so much frankie i tried that and it seems that the one above, 'always open pop-ups in a new window' is the one that worked finally. so, what they hey, i check 'em both!
ps: i do not know what quirks mode is , but i've decided to use that term to describe how my brain works. This message has been edited. Last edited by: susannah,
