I am wondering if anyone can point me towards some training or material that might help me better use some of the newer functionality available in the later WF releases. With a history of FOCUS code writing from way back, I am very comfortable with the core language, but would like to use some of the newer features we all see in WF demos, at Summit, etc. Particularly Active content (Active dashboards, etc.)

Looking at the Education & Training section on the IBI web site, I see some InfoAssist, Report Assistant and core language classes (I took all of the core classes way back when), but they mostly seem geared around basic report writing, not exactly what I'm looking for. I was really hoping to find something that would point me towards creating some great visual, active visual reports with the functionality available in WF 7703.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Hi Deborah,

It looks like you are looking for more customized trainings to better suit your specific need, so I'm wondering, would you like to be contacted by our customer education specialist to find out what you really need and what we can offer? Or maybe by your account manager or customer development manager? Either way, please let me know, and I will be more than happy to find the correct people to help you.

Cheers,

Kerry

Kerry,

I think it would be useful if you had a Webinar
of new features and how the GUI works. 7.7 HTML composer is different and we could really use some pointers.

Thanks

I think a webinar would be useful, but less around what newer functionality is available and more around, well, "I like it, how do I do it?" I think we all, at some point, see new feature demos. Anyone who goes to Summit sees lots of great stuff that we all want to be able to then use at home. The labs at Summit help, but often you're not yet on the release used and can't right away implement what you've learned. And you can't get to every lab that you want to see either, there is just too much to do at Summit!

So, yes, I think a real, functional, "how-to" webinar could be a great start. I have also thought about perhaps bringing a local tech rep in and paying a day rate. Haven't reached out to our Sales rep to discuss that yet though.

Hi Deborah, Prarie,

Thanks for the suggestion. We are going to look into getting a resource so we can plan a webinar. Once available, the info will be posted to the forum, as well as on our schedule page http://www.informationbuilders...serforum/local_event

Cheers,

Kerry

Within the eLearning Store on http://education.informationbuilders.com IB offers a 1-year subscription to a Reference Library that contains self-paced training on many topics. One of the offerings within the library is a New Feature Job Aid section that describes various new features since release 7.6. These job aids contain step-by-step information, links to relevant documentation, and in many cases, videos as well. Other topics in the library include Job Aids for approximately 25 functions, how to import existing code into InfoAssist, recorded training presentations, and screencasts. The library continues to evolve as more and more content is added, so there are new items to see throughout the year.

Your Education Account Manager would have the information on how to subscribe to the Reference Library.

@Kerry that is awesome! Thanks so much for considering my request.

@Emily Duensing thanks for the tip, I will check it out. I know that I did look through some of the self-paced material descriptions, but I must have missed the New Features one.

@susannah hopefully I will be at Summit this year, however, I do not yet have that confirmation. We have a number of people in my org who would benefit and everyone can't go, so they're still trying to figure out who to send.

Thanks everyone for the responses and suggestions.

For InfoAssist, we have a series of free videos online in the WebFOCUS Information Center.
Currently there is a Getting started video, a video on creating simple reports, simple charts, and then one on each of the tabs in InfoAssist. Future videos will cover things such as Active Dashboards, InfoMini, etc.

Regards,
Matthew

It worked fine the day after you sent the first link. It just didn't work for me right after your original post.

Ahhh! I apologize -- I did glance at your message one day and then never had a chance to get back and read it more closely and respond.

In any case, 3/29 @ 2 PM (EST?) could possibly be good time for us for a webinar, although might prefer an AM time as we may have offshore people who might like to attend. I can put together an agenda of topics and get that to you.

Once we have a list of topics and a firm meeting day & time, I can promote the webinar in-house and see what interest I can drum up. We had a series of general WF demos about a month ago for which there was great response. This would probably be a smaller audience, since it would be more technically focused, but I still think there would be some significant interest.

Thanks.
