GIF / JPG Quality in a PDF

I am having a problem getting good quality when embedding a gif or jpg logo in a PDF using WebFOCUS. It works fine but.

Without specifing the SIZE option the size of the image is about 30 % larger then when you imbed the same gif/jpg in a MSWord document.

The quality of the image in a MSWord document is much better than when I imbed it in a PDF using WebFOCUS.

Has anyone ran across this problem?
What tools to you use when working with a GIF or JPG image.

I can't remember all the details...sure I blocked it out of my mind..but I know getting an image on PDF file was challenging. This is what I did to put it in a header. Might work other places.

TYPE=TABHEADING,
IMAGE=VEC_logo_color.gif ,
POSITION=(-1.00000 +0.000000),
SIZE=(1.000000 0.200000), $

Lenny, are you using focus to embed the image into the MSWord doc? or just opening Word and pasting in the image separately?

.gif files tend to display better. Also, it is best to size the image in the graph assist and leave alone sizing in the Report Painter because it can mess up resolution.

I have had more look with footings, e.g.:

TYPE=FOOTING,
IMAGE=CHANGES.gif,
POSITION=(+0.12500000 +0.500000),
$
TYPE=FOOTING,
IMAGE=INCIDENT.gif,
POSITION=(+5.00000 +0.500000),
$

though we do have graphs in a report as a standalone:

TYPE=REPORT,
IMAGE=PROBLEMS.gif,
POSITION=(+0.250000 +0.250000),
$

I am imbeding a gif / jpg into a MS Word document by opening Word. I am not using WebFOCUS.

I am also using WebFOCUS to imbed the gif/jpg into the footing of a PDF report created using WebFOCUS.

TYPE=FOOTING, IMAGE=REIT_INVESCO_LOGO.JPG, POSITION=(3.70 .12),$

OR

TYPE=FOOTING, IMAGE=REIT_INVESCO_LOGO.GIF, POSITION=(3.70 -.12),$

In the Word document the logo is the same size as the original gif/jpg. The quailty is very good.

In the PDF created by WebFOCUS the gif/jpg is 30% larger and the quality is not as good.

I was just checking if other people saw this same thing when they imbeded gif/jpg files into WebFocus PDF files.

Also I was wondering what people used for tools to create their gif/jpg files.

Try using SVG in the PDF Very High Quality.
