By asking this sort of question you demonstrate that you are not too familiar with the server, I would therefore direct you to the relevant manual to have a read through before you undertake this type of action. This will enable you to understand how the server runs etc.

Alternatively, buy some Consultancy time from IB to run through these things with you. It would be a good investment.

I would add to Tonys response that if you do not know that you are obviously not the system administrator.
In which case you should not even be contemplating the action.

Ask your administrator.

Hi All,

I posted this in a desperate attempt to get someone's attention and some help. I had issued edastart -stop and it wasn't working nor was edastart -restart. It was midnight and I was switching the system from OPSYS to DBMS. I eventually got on to customer support and we had to eventually kill the process on Unix and then bring the server up again. We had some strange messages. edastart -showstatus and edastart -show indicated that the server was running but I couldn't get to the Web Server Console. Neither could tech support. All other commands issued against the server returned a message that it could not reach the server, error unknown. The issue is now resolved. When I posted this, I didn't include any details because I wasn't sure if there would be anyone out there at that time but if there was I was hoping that while I waited for tech support to return my call (which they did at 2:30am) that maybe someone was out there and could help me trouble-shoot in case there was another way to stop the server instead of killing off the process.

Well, you succeeded in putting some (or most) of us on the wrong foot. It is *always* in *every case* best to include as much info as possible if you want a serious response.

But, I am glad for you that the issue is resolved now. Are you now successful in running security with DBMS?
