Is it possible to get line breaks in HTML report output like you can when using PDF report output with the LINEBREAK attribute? I have a couple of A255 fields on an SQL Server table where I am putting input from 2 textareas (multi-line edit boxes) in a Maintain app and I'm saving the line feeds in the user's input. I see the LF character (a little box) in the column when I browse the table with SQL Server Enterprise Manager so I know the data is getting written correctly to the table. My app also reads the data back into a textarea with the linefeeds intact.

When using PDF output with LINEBREAK or using Excel output with a simple report made in Report Painter, the line breaks are displayed correctly but not with HTML. I know in HTML that carriage return/line feed characters are normally changed to whitespace when data is output on a web page (at least from what I've read).

Is there maybe a WebFOCUS function that can be used on the field so that line feeds in the data can be displayed in HTML or that adds
tags where the linefeeds occur in the data?

I did see some posts from 2004 and 2006 regarding the LINEBREAK but they seemed to imply that linefeeds in HTML output was impossible at that time.

Thanks,
James

I searched on the IBI Tech Support site and found the answer, thanks to Alan B. His code example works like a charm.

Thanks, Alan!

James, may I suggest you making a reference to the document you found the solution in? This will help the next person with the same problem.

Cheers,

Francis
