when i kill an agent, i expect the agent directory in the edatemp to vanish. but in 7706 , it doesn't. is this normal/expected? what are you guys experiencing?

Another time that the tscom directories are left around is when the process got handed off to JSCOM - usually only for Graphs but I've also seen it for latest version of Excel. Seems that the jscom process can be used to zip up the xlsx file.
