I am trying to manually name the resulting column headers from the "ACROSS JOB_FAMILY" line.
Need a little more clarification on what you mean for naming the column headings. Do you mean each across column has a different heading? Or you want to change the general heading for all columns?

FOCUS will use the values of the the ACROSS field, for the column headings.
So, can you programatically create a new field to ACROSS on, related to your original field?
For example:
DEFINE FILE CAR
LEVEL/A10 = IF COUNTRY EQ 'ENGLAND' THEN 'LEVEL_1' ELSE
IF COUNTRY EQ 'FRANCE' THEN 'LEVEL_2' ELSE 'LEVEL_3';
END
TABLE FILE CAR
SUM CNT.SEATS
BY CAR
ACROSS LEVEL
END
Yields:
LEVEL
LEVEL_1 LEVEL_2 LEVEL_3
CAR
------------------------------------------------------
ALFA ROMEO 0 0 3
AUDI 0 0 1
BMW 0 0 6
DATSUN 0 0 1
