BID login to WebServer on IIS 6
Does anyone have experiences of poor performance when using BID (5.3.2) to WebServer on IIS6?

Here, we have an intermittent problem where the login process can take anywhere from a few seconds to nigh on a minute. Not good when you are encouraging users to UAT!!

Our tech support guru thinks that there may be a problem with IIS6 and application pooling etc. and has taken steps to trace and provide evidence but in the meantime we would like to hear from anyone who has had similar problems.

Client machines are generally Dell Optiplex 3.00 GHz with 512K memory running Windows XP.
Client Server (Web Server) is running Windows 2003, IIS 6, New Atlanta, and WF 5.3.2 (x3 - prd, uat & dev). nodes are resolved via DNS server.
Reporting Server is a quad (big numbersSmiler)Ghz processors with 2Gb memory and bundles of storage, running Windows 2003 and WF 5.3.2.

BID authentication / authorisation are via Active Directory using different schemas for UAT and DEV. PRD is not yet active.

If you would prefer to converse through PM then please feel free to do so.

Hey Tony,

We are working approx. under the same configuration as you do, we used to work on IIS6 now we use tomcat

Does it take long time for the groupview menu to popup or a launch page?

Can you tell me a bit more...

Do IIS6 tag along died persistant sessions?

Peter

Hi Peter,

Once in the BID things run smoothly and performance is good. It is only after pressing the return key or clicking the Logon button on the WORP_Loginsi.jsp page that we have the wait (or not - response today less than 1 sec so farSmiler). The only changes to this .jsp file is for dual logon and is IB suggested code. This code has been in place for eons (seemingly) and does not change from when we have poor response or good. So we can rule that out of the equation.

Our tech support guru is actioning an IIS restart overnight (as there is nothing much else on that machine) to see if that improves things. So far it appears that this has helped but it is still early days.

This Company might move to 7.1.n in time and when I mentioned using Apache with Tomcat servlets the Tech Support guru seemed happier ( - for Susannah - ROFL!!!).

T.,

I Know that once we disabled the persistance option in the session tracking section of new atlanta, the system logged on a lot faster

did you check that?

Peter

Pete,

I am testing with the persistance on the NA servlet session tracking disabled on only one of our envs. to see if it makes a difference. Hopefully we'll be able to notice a difference between our Dev and UAT environments.

Karen,

I've passed the links onto our Tech Support guru for his input. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi Peter,

As it's an intermittent problem (the worst kind Frowner) it will probably take a while. Our Techie is wallowing deep into trace files (six + pages of A3 for four seconds of activity with only the login being performed on the - disconnected - server!) at present as we would probably wager on the fact that IE is at the root of the problem.

If we have any startling revelations to share then I will post here (of course).

Regards
