I am trying to show the total for each BY field but I am not able to get it to work for the second BY field. See my code below.
TABLE FILE CAR SUM COMPUTE DCOST/D12.2=DEALER_COST; NOPRINT BY COUNTRY PRINT DEALER_COST BY COUNTRY BY CAR ON COUNTRY SUBFOOT "ON CAR SUBFOOT "END -EXIT
I need to see the total by country and total by car.

tags - your SUBFOOT content disappears because of the left caret.
Dare I ask why you're using SUBFOOT to display totals?
Have you looked into the ST. prefix?
quote:
ST. - Produces a subtotal value of the specified field at a sort break in the report. This operator only applies when used in subheadings and subfootings.

SET SUBTOTALS = ABOVE
TABLE FILE CAR
PRINT
DEALER_COST
BY COUNTRY
BY CAR
ON CAR SUB-TOTAL
END
If you need the subtotals in the SUBHEAD you can use:
DEFINE FILE CAR
CODCOST/D6=DEALER_COST;
CADCOST/D6=DEALER_COST;
END
TABLE FILE CAR
SUM CODCOST NOPRINT
BY COUNTRY
SUM CADCOST NOPRINT
BY COUNTRY BY CAR
PRINT
DEALER_COST
BY COUNTRY
BY CAR
ON COUNTRY SUBHEAD
"<COUNTRY <CODCOST"
ON CAR SUBHEAD
" <CAR<CADCOST"
ON TABLE SET STYLE *
TYPE=SUBHEAD, HEADALIGN=BODY, $
ENDSTYLE
