Hi, our customer (Anglo Platinum) wants to (ideally) call an existing BW Report from WebFOCUS.

The WebFOCUS report will be reporting from the summarized layer of the EDW, but if the user wants to see the detail he/she should be able to connect to an existing BW report. This makes sense because they only want summarized data from which the WF report will run…i.e. You have data for some kind of costing, the costing might be per day and each item can contain up to 8 million line items a day. In the summarized layer of the EDW (thus WF report) you only want totals per day, but if you want to see the detail for that item you want to call the BW Report that uses another datasourse (BW) that contains all the data for the summarized data. It does not make sense to have the detail in the EDW and BW….hope this makes sense to you..;-)…

Ok, after doing some research, we came up with the following options :

1. You can expose a BAPI through the metadata, but then it must be a very specifically written BAPI which basically produces a data file for WF to pick up. So in this case, you
won’t be able to use the existing report as such, but you can leverage the data from BW.
2. Or using a URL. You will need to figure out how to send parameters and remember the whole security issue. If you do this from within the portal, probably the
credentials will be passed (since you have single sign-on.
3. Or finally, you may be able to call an IVIEW if you are within the portal. Again, the question is parameter passing and security.

Notes on above points :

1. BAPI : Has anyone ever done this before? Examples / ideas ?
2. URL : This should be the last resort. Examples / ideas ?
3. IVIEW : Examples / ideas ?

Thanks

IBI offers an adapter to do this. I would suggest contacting your local agent.

Thanks GinnyJakes,

The customer already has a SAP R/3 adapter which, I think, can be used to create meta data from BAPI? Correct?

Kind Regards,

You'd have to check the manual. You can use the reporting server console to create the connection and to create the metadata. Both steps would be required.
